What a Weekend of Football we had in Round 1 of the A-League

A-League Round 1 My Review

It was an intriguing weekend of football. The highlight was the goal from Scott Galloway. The Reds are extremely well coached. Remarkably three of the five games resulted in draws; that means only two teams got the three points. It was a scintillating weekend of football.

Friday Night Game

Reds v Sky Blues

The Friday night game saw the Reds draw with the Sky Blues. The Reds controlled most of the game. Both sides battled to get shots on target. The Reds looked dangerous early. The Sky Blues appeared to be lacklustre and disorganised. The Sky Blues struggled to get possession. Ryan Strain was prolific. Andrew Redmayne made a superb save from Craig Goodwin. Scott Galloway scored a sublime goal on the stroke of half time. A well deserved lead for the Reds. The Reds pressed effectively and controlled the tempo of the match. Adam Lefondre made it one all and Milos Ninkovic set up the goal. Ben Halloran had his shot well saved by Redmayne.
Reds Game Changer: Michael Jakobsen
Sky Blues Game Changer: Andrew Redmayne

Saturday Night Game

Victory v City
The Saturday night game was the Melbourne derby, which was a tough tight contest. Victory were the favourites to take home the three points, however City were victorious.
Victory Game Changer: Keisuke Honda
City Game Changer: Richard de Laet

Sunday Games

Phoenix v Jets
I expected the Jets to beat the Phoenix, but Mark Rudan started his managerial career with a victory in an upset win. The Jets were expected to win this game.
Phoenix Game Changer: Roy Krishna
Jets Game Changer: Dimitri Petratos

Roar v Mariners
The game between the Roar and the Mariners was expected to be a close contest and lived up to expectations with the game ending in a one all draw.
Roar Game Changer: Adam Taggart
Mariners Game Changer: Michael Mcglinchey

Glory v Wanderers
The Sunday game was fairly boring early on with no shots on goal. Andy Keogh gave the Glory an early lead with a quality goal. Joel Chianese set up a chance for Keogh who missed the header.
Alex Grant hit the bar with a superb header, very unlucky. Tom Mrcela did well to prevent Bonevacia from scoring. Tarek Elrich played a superb ball to Bonevacia who scored a clinical goal. The two sides shared the spoils.
Glory Game Changer: Alex Grant
Wanderers Game Changer: Roly Bonevacia
