A-League Round 1 My Preview
The first round of the season offers five intriguing clashes. None of the games have a definite winner, besides perhaps the Jets over the Phoenix. The round begins with the Reds taking on the Sky Blues; the game is a preview of the FFA Cup Final. The highlight of the round is probably the Melbourne Derby, while Manager Tony Popovic begins his first game as manager with the Glory against former side the Wanderers. Five of the ten clubs have new managers for the new season!
My Choice of a definite winner for this Round: Jets
Friday Night Game
Reds v Sky Blues
This is a tantalising clash that could go either way. There is no doubt that Trent Buhagiar is a massive loss for the Sky Blues. It will interesting to see how Steve Corica goes in his first A-League match in charge as manager, although he did have one game a s coach a few seasons ago, but now it’s different as he officially has the top job. It’s a tough start for Corica away to the Reds.
Reds Game Changer: Ryan Strain
Sky Blues Game Changer: Andrew Redmayne
My Prediction: Reds
Saturday Night Game
Victory v City
The Melbourne Derby should be a fascinating clash. There are a host of new players for both sides with the game set to be a cracking contest!
Victory Game Changer: Keisuke Honda
City Game Changer: Riley Mcgree
My Prediction: City
Sunday Games
Phoenix v Jets
Mark Rudan begins life as a manager with a tough test against last season’s Grand Finalist and runner up in the Jets. On another note Ernie Merrick coaches against his former team. I expect the Jets to be victorious in this contest.
Phoenix Game Changer: Roy Krishna
Jets Game Changer: Dimi Petratos
My Prediction: Jets
Roar v Mariners
Yet another club with a new manager will be in action this weekend with Mike Mulvey set to begin his reign at the Mariners against the Roar. This is an extremely tough game to predict.
Game Changer: Eric Bautheac
Mariners Game Changer: Matt Simon
My Prediction: Mariners
Glory v Wanderers
The Glory face the Wanderers in the final game of the round. This should be an exciting clash with both clubs having new managers in charge of their respective teams.
Glory Game Changer: Brandon Wilson
Wanderers Game Changer: Roly Bonevacia
My Prediction: Glory
