Premier League Pecking Order- Matchweek 10 (Premier League Season 2022/23- In a Nutshell)
The pecking order is based on the performance of the Premier League teams during the given Matchweek; on this occasion, it’s Matchweek 10. The Premier League Pecking Order starts with the 20th team (worst performed team) in the Pecking Order and finishes with the 1st team (best performed team) in the Pecking Order.
20- Southampton
Southampton were thoroughly outplayed by Manchester City, as Southampton had no shots on target and were fortunate to only lose 4-nil.
19- Brentford
Brentford were deplorable with two of the five goals conceded were from their own errors. There’s no disputing that it was a poor display from them and deservedly lost 5-1 to Newcastle United.
18- Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers can thank goalkeeper Jose Sa that they only lost 3-nil against Chelsea. It was seven shots on target to two in favour of Chelsea.
17- Fulham
Fulham started the game well as they opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Following that, their chances to score were few and far between. They lost the game against a superior West Ham United team 3-1.
16- Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest put in an average display, but claimed a valuable point. They opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but from then on Aston Villa controlled the majority of the game. The final score was 1-all.
15- Aston Villa
Aston Villa had to come back from conceding the opening goal of the game to claim a point against Nottingham Forest. Aston Villa finished with the majority of possession and double the number of shots than Nottingham Forest. It was two points lost for Aston Villa as all they could muster was a draw.
14- Everton
Everton opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but from then on Manchester United controlled the game. The Red Devils controlled possession and had double the number of shots on target than Everton, with four to two. Almost inevitably Everton lost the game 2-1.
13- Leeds United
Leeds United played some good football in the first half and were rewarded with the opening goal in the tenth minute. The game was fairly close statistically, but ultimately Crystal Palace were too good, as they won the game 2-1.
12- Leicester City
Leicester City were yet another team that lost in Matchweek 10 after scoring the opening goal of the game. They scored the goal in the tenth minute. It was an even contest with AFC Bournemouth, but ultimately AFC Bournemouth won the game 2-1.
11- Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur won a game against Brighton and Hove Albion where Spurs played a fairly boring style of football. Tottenham Hotspur had less possession and shots on target so ultimately, they were lucky to get the three points, as they scored the only goal of the game.
10- Liverpool
Liverpool played some decent football from an attacking perspective with two of their three shots on target goals. They had more possession than Arsenal, despite losing the game 3-2. There’s clearly work to do defensively and Mohamed Salah isn’t playing as well as last Season as he only has two goals and four assists. They are clearly missing Sadio Mane, despite a lot of their problems being in defence.
9- AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth did well to win against a Leicester City team that may be struggling for form, but opened the scoring. There’s no disputing that AFC Bournemouth displayed plenty of character in Matchweek 10 to defeat Leicester City 2-1.
8- Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace may have conceded the opening goal of the game against Leeds United, but Crystal Palace showed plenty of determination to claim a crucial three points. They deserved the three points and 2-1 was probably a fair result, as they played well in the second half.
7- Brighton and Hove Albion
Brighton and Hove Albion lost a game in which they controlled the possession and had more shots on target and shots than their opponent. They can count themselves unlucky to lose 1-nil to Tottenham Hotspur.
6- Manchester United
Manchester United displayed plenty of resilience in a game that they conceded the opening goal of the game in the fifth minute. Fortunately, for them after that they were the better team and claimed a deserved 2-1 win over Everton. Manchester United controlled possession and the balance of play, as they had double the number of shots on target than Everton.
5- West Ham United
West Ham United were yet another team that conceded the first goal of the game, as Fulham scored in the fifth minute. Following that, West Ham United were superior to Fulham and played some decent football.
4- Arsenal
Arsenal may have scored in the opening minute of the game, but they had to grind out a result against Liverpool. There’s no disputing that Arsenal were the better team, despite having less possession as they had four more shots on target than Liverpool and won the game 3-2, deservedly.
3- Newcastle United
Newcastle United scored two goals where they forced Brentford into mistakes. Newcastle United played some fantastic football in a game that they deservedly won 5-1. They scored five goals from only six shots on target and controlled the possession.
2- Chelsea
Chelsea was in good form as they had seven shots on target from 20 shots and controlled possession. They deservedly defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-nil, despite Chelsea leaving some quality players on the substitutes bench. They could’ve won the game by more, but cruised to claim what could be a crucial three points and kept a clean sheet.
1- Manchester City
Manchester City put in a dominant performance in a 4-nil win over Southampton. Manchester City played some scintillating football. The game was so one sided that Chelsea had eight shots on target, compared to none for Southampton! The scoreboard flattered Southampton as Manchester City were exceptional.
Premier League Pecking Order- Matchweek 10 (Premier League Season 2022/23- Final Thoughts)
It was a tough Matchweek to predict the results in as there was just one draw and in four out of nine matches the winning team conceded the first goal of the game, which made the Pecking Order in Matchweek 10 an interesting exercise. Four out of 20 teams scored three goals or more. Contrastingly, three out of 20 teams kept a clean sheet. There plenty of points of interest that were displayed in the Pecking Order in Matchweek 10.
