Premier League Pecking Order- Matchweek 3 (Premier League Season 2022/23- In a Nutshell)

The pecking order is based on the performance of the Premier League teams during the given Matchweek; on this occasion, it’s Matchweek 3. The Premier League Pecking Order starts with the 20th team (worst performed team) in the Pecking Order and finishes with the 1st team (best performed team) in the Pecking Order.

20- AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth battled to be competitive; they were completely outplayed by Arsenal.

19- Chelsea

  • Chelsea was comprehensively outplayed by Leeds United; they were lucky they only lost 3-nil, as they were out worked.

18- Leicester City 

  • Leicester City lost a game that they led 1-nil against Southampton. It was a game that they shouldn’t have lost.

17- West Ham United

  • West Ham United lost 2-nil to Brighton and Hove Albion, but West Ham United had three shots on target to Brighton and Hove Albion’s two!

16- Tottenham Hotspur

  • Tottenham Hotspur won the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-nil, thanks to Harry Kane, but were outplayed, despite claiming the three points.

15- Aston Villa

  • Aston Villa lost a game to Crystal Palace 3-1, despite leading 1-nil after five minutes.

14- Brentford

  • Brentford came back from a two-goal deficit against Fulham, but fought back to make the score 2-all in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, for Brentford they conceded a goal in the 90th minute and lost the game 3-2.

13- Nottingham Forest

  • Nottingham Forest put in a reasonable display against Everton having more possession and five shots on target from 14. They were winning 1-nil, but the game ended up in a draw. 

12- Brighton and Hove Albion

  • Brighton and Hove Albion won 2-nil against West Ham United, but their best player was arguably their goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.

11- Liverpool

  • Liverpool wasn’t the better team against Manchester United, despite having 70.4% possession and 17 shots.

10- Everton

  • Everton snatched a draw in an entertaining game against Nottingham Forest. The man of the match was probably Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, which indicates Everton were the better team.

9- Wolverhampton Wanderers 

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers put in an amazing display against Tottenham Hotspur. They were the better team for an hour. They had 20 shots to Tottenham Hotspur 11.

8- Fulham

  • Fulham showed great character to win the game against Brentford in the 90th minute, which gave them a 3-2 lead. They had nine shots on target from 18 shots, despite having less possession than Brentford.

7- Southampton

  • Southampton showed great character to fight by from a one goal deficit against Leicester City to win the game 2-1. Bringing Che Adams of Southampton off the bench scoring a brace, was a master stroke.

6- Manchester United

  • Manchester United played a decent game against a formidable opponent, in Liverpool. The game should have been over at half time, but they missed chances, most notably an opportunity to score early on with Anthony Elanga hitting the post. 

5- Newcastle United

  • Newcastle United squandered a 3-1 lead against Manchester City, to draw the game 3-all. They claimed a point thanks to their goalkeeper, Nick Pope having an oustanding game, despite conceding three goals.

4- Manchester City

  • Manchester City played an attacking brand of football. They led 1-nil against Newcastle United after 5 minutes, but trailed 3-1 after the 54th They finished with ten shots on target from 21 shots and 68.7% possession and claimed a point.

3- Crystal Palace 

  • Crystal Palace recovered from a one goal deficit to defeat Aston Villa 3-1. They played an attacking brand of football with nine shots on target!

2- Leeds United

  • Leeds United completely outplayed Chelsea and deservedly won the game 3-nil. The manner in which they pressed was so impressive. It was difficult to find any weaknesses. 

1- Arsenal

  • Arsenal had six shots on target, compared with AFC Bournemouth’s one. Martin Odegaard scored a brace in the opening 11 minutes of the game and the game was effectively won by Arsenal at that point.

Premier League Pecking Order- Matchweek 3 (Premier League Season 2022/23- Final Thoughts)

It was a tough Matchweek to predict the results in as there were a couple of upsets, which made the Pecking Order in Matchweek 3 a fun exercise. There was at least one goal scored in every match. There were only two draws, but two significant upsets with Leeds United defeating Chelsea 3-nil and Manchester United beating Liverpool 2-1; it made for an intriguing Matchweek of football.
