Premier League Team of the Week – Matchweek 1 (Premier League Season 2020-21)

Matchweek 1 Team of the Week (In a Nutshell)

I only predicted two players who were selected! It was a tough task to pick a starting 11! Find out who was selected in the team!

Formaton

 4-4-2

Starting 11

Goalkeeper: Vicente Guaita (Crystal Palace)
Right Back: Reece James (Chelsea)
Centre Back: Çağlar Söyüncü (Leicester City)
Centre Back: Romain Saïss (Wolves)
Left Back: Lucas Digne (Everton)
Right Midfield: Jeff Hendrick (Newcastle United)
Centre Midfield: Mateusz Klich (Leeds United)
Centre Midfield: Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)
Left Midfield: Jack Harrison (Leeds United)
Striker: Callum Wilson (Newcastle United)
Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

Goalkeeper

Vicente Guaita was instrumental in Crystal Palace beating Southampton 1-nil as he made five saves. The majority of the saves he made were difficult to save; Crystal Palace have him to thank for claiming all three points.

Defenders

Reece James was a pivotal part of Chelsea claiming all three points against Brighton and Hove Albion. It was his attacking flair that was impressive, as he scored a goal and provided an assist.
Çağlar Söyüncü helped restrict West Brom to just one shot on target.
Romain Saïss was probably the best player on the pitch for Wolves against Sheffield United. Along with his defensive work he scored the all important second goal of the game in the sixth minute.
Lucas Digne proved an integral part of Everton keeping a clean sheet against Tottenham and provided an assist.

Midfielders

Jeff Hendrick had an outstanding game for Newcastle United. He scored a goal and provided an assist!
Mateusz Klich scored a goal, which was the third time in that Leeds United scored an equaliser against Liverpool!
Granit Xhaka played a good game in the centre of midfield for Arsenal against Fulham.
Jack Harrison from scored an equaliser in the 12th minute. It was a pivotal goal for Leeds United’s morale, as it appeared to give them confidence. They may have lost the game, but their opening goal was the catalyst for them putting up a good fight!

Strikers

Callum Wilson proved that Newcastle United made the right choice in recruiting him. He had an outstanding as he scored the opening goal of the game in the second half in what was a 2-nil win. Without him in the team they may not have won against West Ham United as he was arguably the man of the match!
Jamie Vardy scored two goals from the penalty spot; he made it look easy. He was probably the best player on the field in the game between newly promoted West Brom and Leicester City.

Matchweek 1 Team of the Week (Final Thoughts)

I attempted to make the Premier League Team of the Week- Matchweek 1 authentic. With regards to the positions that I choose, they are as realistic as possible. I did want to select Mohamed Salah, but I chose to select a team with the formation 4-4-2 and Liverpool play 4-3-3. I didn’t select Willian from Arsenal either as they also play 4-3-3 and like Salah, Willian is a winger/striker. The two players I correctly selected from my Predicted Premier League Team of the Week were both from Leicester City!
