Emotional Intelligence and Why it Matters?

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is a person’s ability to function in society. This encapsulates a person’s knowledge of themselves, with regards to every facet, including their strengths and weaknesses. Emotional intelligence also refers to a person’s capacity to relate and interact with the full spectrum of individuals within society.

Ability only gets you so far in life

Emotional intelligence is a pivotal aspect to a person achieving success. Without having an adequate level of emotional intelligence, a person can’t function properly within society. If a person has a low emotional intelligence then it inhibits their prospects of success.

Why Emotional Intelligence is needed to succeed?

When a person’s potential emotional intelligence is matched against their actual emotional intelligence it can often be the difference between success and failure. The following areas have scope for growth in relation to an individual’s emotional intelligence:

  • Emotional learning capacity.
  • Propensity to solve problems as well as emotional processing.
  • Emotional understanding.
  • Emotional memory.

Why is Emotional intelligence important?

Due to the fact that in any industry at the elite level the element that separates individuals with similar ability is their attitude and mental strength. State of mind is temporary and therefore those individuals that maintain consistency in their actions are usually the most successful.

A person can only control their own actions

Endeavour and ability don’t always correlate with results. There have been many people that have had knock backs in their life, but have become iconic figures within society. Based on his academic performance Richard Branson seemed destined for a life of mediocrity. Fortunately, life isn’t played on paper. He has grown into a famous figure within today’s society. Michael Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team, but went onto become arguably the best basketball player ever. If he had given up playing his ability would have meant nothing!
