Round 11 Review (Hyundai A-League)
This Round had at least one goal scored in every game. It was a tough round for attackers with two of the games having a team that kept a clean sheet. It saw the Sky Blues and the Jets continuing to set the pace at the top of the ladder, while the Wanderers and Victory breathed life into their top six aspirations.
Sky Blues v City Review
Bobo had a couple of chances that he squandered early on. Mccormack had an opportunity crucially saved by Redmayne. A fantastic finish by Brattan, gave City a well deserved lead in the thirty-seventh minute. Shortly after the Sky Blues levelled the scores with a sublime free kick from Adrian. Sky Blues had another chance in stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty that was scored by Bobo. In the second half Fitzgerald had a shot saved by Redmayne. Bobo also had a shot that was well saved by Bouzanis. Brosque managed to make the margin two goals with a clinical finish in stoppage time to make the score three goals to one in favour of the Sky Blues.
Jets v Reds Review
It was a tough and tight contest early with neither side making incursions into the oppositions final third. Nabbout missed a golden opportunity. Boogaard was forced to intervene on a couple of occasions in the first half providing inspirational leadership. In the second half Nabbout buried an elementary chance to put the Jets ahead in the fifty-fifth minute. Blackwood equalized for the Reds in the sixty-seventh minute with Marrone credited with an assist. Following that, substitute Hoffman played an exquisite cross to Nabbout who should have scored. Champness also missed a chance to score. For the second week in a row the Jets won a game late on, this week it was through a penalty to Petratos who scored the winner in the eighty ninth minute to make the final score two-one to the Jets.
Mariners v Wanderers Review
Hoole missed a chance for the Mariners to take the lead early on. Mcging played an intelligent ball into the box that Asdrubal should have done better with. Janjetovic took a quick throw that went to Bridge who set up a goal for Santalab in the twenty-seventh minute. Hoole was in action again when he set up a golden opportunity to score that De Silva missed. De Silva found pockets of space and was influential, while, Mcging worked forward despite playing in defence. Following the half time break Baccus played a fantastic pass to Santalab who provided an aisst for Cejudo. Mariners had two red cards given and were subsequently down to nine men, with both send offs adjudicated following the intervention of the VAR. The Wanderers won the game two-nil, but they couldn’t say they deserved the three points.
Glory v Phoenix Review
In a blow to the Phoenix they lost stand in skipper Vidosic due to an injury early on. Lowry led the team extremely well in the absence of captain Keogh. Honours were even at half time, with both teams lacking quality in the final third. Early in the Second Half Ridenton took an audacious shot that hit the post. What followed was a simple chance that was missed by Castro. Nichols cleverly set up a goal for the Glory that was expertly finished off by play maker Castro. The Phoenix provided some positive lead up play to no avail, as Glory managed to hold on to a one-nil victory.
Roar v Victory Review
The last game of the round the most entertaining with end to end football being played. Young made a couple of freakish saves early on. Following that, Victory scored through Williams, with George providing the assist. In the nineteenth minute, George provided another assist with Barbarouses with the goal. In the Second Half the Roar scored through Maccarone with Mckay credited with an assist. Young kept the Roar in the game with some inspirational saves. The Roar controlled the Second Half without enough end product in the final third.
