Premier League Team of the Week – Matchweek 8 (Premier League Season 2020-21)

Matchweek 8 Team of the Week (In a Nutshell)

I predicted four players who were selected by me in the Matchweek 8 Team of the Week!

Formation

4-3-3

Starting 11

Goalkeeper: Karl Darlow (Newcastle United)
Right Back: Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)
Centre Back: Joël Veltman (Brighton and Hove Albion)
Centre Back: Harry Maguire (Manchester United)
Left Back: Ben Chilwell (Chelsea)
Centre Midfield: Ross Barkley (Aston Villa)
Centre Midfield: Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
Centre Midfield: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
Striker: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham)
Striker: Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Goalkeeper

Karl Darlow may have conceded two goals against Southampton, but he made some fantastic saves. The final score would have been a lot worse if not for Darlow who kept Newcastle United for the majority of the game, until Southampton scored their second goal of the game in the 82nd minute.

Defenders

Kyle Walker-Peters was outstanding at right back for Southampton. He was one of the reasons why they sit fourth on the Premier League table.
Joël Veltman had a solid game as he helped Brighton and Hove Albion restrict Burnley to one shot on target.
Harry Maguire led from the front for Manchester United. He played well, as he helped his team survive Everton’s forays forward.
Ben Chilwell was a pivotal part as he scored Chelsea’s pivotal second goal of the game that gave them a one goal advantage over Sheffield United.

Midfielders

Ross Barkley played a key role in Aston Villa defeating Arsenal 3-nil. He scored the all important second goal for Aston Villa in the 72nd minute.
Bruno Fernandes was probably the best player on the park for Manchester United against Everton. He led by example with a brace and provided an assist, which meant he was involved in all three of Manchester United’s goals.
Jack Grealish showed why he is the Aston Villa Captain in what was possibly a man of the match performance.

Strikers

Wilfried Zaha may have finished the game with one assist and therefore only contributing directly to one of Crystal Palace’s four goals, but he was probably the best player of the field. He created space for other Crystal Palace players to profit from.
Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game for Tottenham in the 88th minute with a pivotal goal in a game where West Bromwich Albion nearly stole a point in.
Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa scored a brace against Arsenal.

Matchweek 8 Team of the Week (Final Thoughts)

I endeavoured to select the Premier League Team of the Week in Matchweek 8 as accurately as possible. That’s related to the positions that I chose and the formation that most closely fitted the players that warranted selection in Matchweek 8 Team of the Week. As with other previous Team of the Weeks there were unlucky players that missed out, but that’s football.
