FPL GW2 Strategy
The decision made to play the Wildcard Chip in GW2 appeared to be a bad one this GW; with the benefit of hindsight the decision made by me as manager of Pointers proved to be the wrong one based on GW2, The Wildcard may have been played too early. Despite no Haaland or Fernandes, Pointers somehow scored the average points for GW2.
The formation of 3-4-3 seemed the right formation for GW2, as there were 32 goals scored in ten games.
FPL GW2 Goalkeeper
David Raya (ARS, £6.0m) is widely regarded as a top class goalkeeper and Arsenal were playing Aston Villa, who struggled in GW1, therefore it was a good decision to transfer him into the Pointers team, as he didn’t disappoint.
FPL GW2 Defenders
Virgil van Dijk (LIV, £6.5m) appeared to be a good defender to bring into the Pointers team, as he is usually a reliable defender and they were playing Nottingham Forest, but unfortunately Liverpool conceded two goals.
Gabriel Magalhães (ARS, £8.0m) is the most expensive defender in FPL for a reason; the centre-back appeared to be a good option as he could fit into the budget.
James Tarkowski (EVE, £6.0m- V) scored a valuable goal in second half stoppage time and therefore provided a valuable 12 points for Pointers.
FPL GW1 Midfielders
Cole Palmer (CHE, £9.5m) didn’t do much in the game, but he stood up when needed to and scored what proved to be a crucial goal.
Bukayo Saka (ARS, £9.5m) appears to be a good addition to Pointers, scoring a goal in each of the first two games of 2026/27.
Cody Gakpo (LIV, £7.0m) played 70 minutes for Liverpool and provided an assist for Alexander Isak.
Harvey Barnes (NEW, £6.0m) appears to have cemented his spot for Newcastle United, but didn’t produce a goal or an assist.
FPL GW2 Forwards
Gonzalo García (FUL, £6.0m) scored a goal in GW1, but failed to have an impact in GW2 from a goal and assist perspective.
Yoane Wissa (NEW, £6.0m) produced a poachers finish midway through the second half against Spurs, that gave meant Newcastle United won the game 2-0.
Alexander Isak (LIV, £9.0m- C) put in a reasonable shift and was rewarded with a goal in the second half. The decision to make him captain was a reasonable one, because he was on the scoresheet.
FPL GW2 Substitutes
Goalkeeper: Caoimhín Kelleher (BRE, £5.0m) conceded a goal against Leeds United in the second half; it was the right choice not to start him.
Midfielder: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (EVE, £6.5m) was transferred into Pointers, because he is priced at an affordable price and is in the Everton starting 11.
Defender: Kristoffer Ajer (BRE, £4.5m) should be a permanent fixture in the Brentford team, because Sepp van den Berg is injured, so Ajer is a handy player for depth.
Defender: Lewis Dunk (BHA, £4.5m) appears that he will get game time and should be a reliable player for Pointers.
