FPL GW3 Strategy

The decision made to play the Triple Captain Chip was literally a last minute decision in GW3 and the use of ten transfers was a rash in retrospect, but my gut feel that the best way to approach GW3 for Pointers was to change the team up a bit so that’s why the decision was made. The move to Triple Captain Haaland seemed a no brainer against Coventry City.

FPL GW3 Formation

The formation of 3-4-3 seemed the right formation for GW3, because the substitutes for Pointers were deemed to be the right one as it was predicted by me as manager that those players weren’t going to score high, which proved to be the case, as the bench only scored 11 points.

FPL GW3 Goalkeeper

Konstantinos Tzolakis (Hull City, £4.6m) hasn’t conceded a goal in the first three games of the Premier League 2026/27. It was a risky choice to transfer out David Raya, but Tzolakis was cheaper and he is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League from a fantasy perspective so far this season.

FPL GW3 Defenders

Maxim De Cuyper (Brighton, £4.7m) was transferred into Pointers, because of his attacking value and he did end up getting an assist against Leeds United.

John Egan (Hull City, £4.1m) hasn’t missed a minute in the opening three games of 2026/27 and has been part of a Hull City defence that kept three clean sheets in a row. He was transferred into Pointers for Gabriel, to save money.

Ryan Giles (Hull City, £4.0m) has been reliable and got two bonus points with a solid display. but it saved Pointers £2.0m as James Tarwkowski was transferred out.

FPL GW3 Midfielders

Rayan Cherki (Manchester City, £7.8m) looked dangerous, but unfortunately didn’t get a goal or an assist in GW3, but it wasn’t through lack of trying.

Matheus Cunha (Manchester United, £7.9m) missed a chance to score in the first half and was largely ineffectual.

Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City, £8.4m) did well to get an assist with a brilliant cross that led to the only goal of the game against Coventry City.

Morgan Rogers (Chelsea, £7.5m) scored in the second minute of the game and put in a decent shift.

FPL GW3 Forwards

Jørgen Strand Larsen (Crystal Palace, £6.5m) only played 45 minutes, as he was substituted on at half time, so the gamble to transfer him in wasn’t a good decision by me as manager of Pointers.

Alexander Isak (Liverpool, £9.0m- V) was the only player in the starting 11 for Pointers that wasn’t transferred into the team. The decision to keep him proved the correct one as he scored a brace.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City, £15.5m- C) was transferred into Pointers, but he only scored one goal against Coventry City, but could’ve scored more goals.

FPL GW3 Substitutes

Goalkeeper: Caoimhín Kelleher (Brentford, £5.0m) conceded a goal from the penalty spot against Sunderland in the 82nd minute.

Midfielder: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Everton, £6.5m) wasn’t selected in the starting 11 for Pointers, because it was a gut feel that he wouldn’t score high in GW3.

Defender: Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford, £4.5m) should be a permanent part of the Brentford defence, because they have two centre backs injured.

Defender: Lewis Dunk (Brighton, £4.5m) had a decent game from a fantasy perspective, because he scored a bonus point and scored two points for defensive contributions.
