Premier League Team of the Week – Matchweek 2 (Premier League Season 2020-21)

Matchweek 2 Team of the Week (In a Nutshell)

I only predicted two players who were selected for the second week in a row! It was a tough task to pick a starting 11!

Formation

 3-4-3

Starting 11

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool)
Centre Back: Michael Keane (Everton)
Centre Back: Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)
Centre Back: Ezri Konsa Ngoyo (Aston Villa)
Right Midfield: Hélder Costa (Leeds United)
Centre Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Centre Midfield: Dennis Prayet (Leicester City)
Left Midfield: Harvey Barnes (Leicester City)
Right Wing/Striker: James Rodriguez (Everton)
Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham)
Left Wing/Striker: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Goalkeeper

Alisson was a pivotal part of Liverpool claiming all three points against Chelsea. One of the three saves that he made was in the 75th minute, which was extremely important as the deficit would have been one goal with 15 minutes left had the penalty been a goal. It ensured that Liverpool won the game as it meant that Chelsea didn’t regain the ascendancy. He wasn’t the only goalkeeper to save a penalty in Matchweek 2, but he made other saves, unlike Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who’s penalty save was his only save of the Matchweek.

Defenders

Michael Keane of Everton scored a goal that gave Everton a two goal lead with the score 3-1 in their favour following Keane’s goal.
Tyrone Mings provided the assist for the only goal for Aston Villa. He also helped his team keep a clean sheet and restrict Sheffield United to one shot on target!
Ezri Konsa Ngoyo scored the only goal of the game in a tight contest, which gave Aston Villa a valuable three points. That’s the case due to their opening game of the Premier League Season 2020/21, in Matchweek 1 being postponed.

Midfielders

Hélder Costa was instrumental in Leeds United claiming a narrow one goal win over Fulham scoring a brace.
Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City finished the game against Wolves with a goal and an assist, which was Manchester City’s first game of the Season.
Dennis Prayet gave Leicester City a two goal lead against Burnley with a goal in the 79th minute.
Harvey Barnes of Leicester City finished the game in Matchweek 2 with a goal and an assist.

Strikers

James Rodriguez finished with a goal and an assist for Everton.
Harry Kane finished with one goal and four assists for Tottenham. He was rewarded for his hard work with Tottenham’s fifth goal of the game.
Sadio Mane scored two goals; the only two goals of the game for Liverpool in what may be a Season defining game for Liverpool against Chelsea.

Matchweek 2 Team of the Week (Final Thoughts)

I attempted to make the Premier League Team of the Week- Matchweek 2 authentic. With regards to the positions that I choose, they are as realistic as possible. I did want to select Son Heung-min, as he scored four goals, but I chose to select Sadio Mane from Liverpool on the right wing/striker instead. I felt that Sadio Mane’s brace against Liverpool was tougher to score than Son Heung-min’s four goals against a Southampton team that had a bad game.
