Review- Mar 16-18, 2018 (Hyundai A-League)

The Weekend of football was enthralling, with at least a goal scored in all four games that were played. There was a one sided game that had plenty of goals involving the Victory and the Mariners. The other three games were all competitive with both sides having an opportunity to pick up the three points on offer.

Reds v City Review

The Reds controlled the tempo of the game early, playing a better style of play compared to City. Adlung took a long shot and showed good intent. Arzani put the ball on a plate for Fornaroli, but he failed to finish off the good work. Schenkenveld covered Absalonsen well. Arzani had a shot well saved by Izzo. Vidosic won a penalty, with Elsey the guilty party. Izzo saved the penalty kick from Fornaroli; he did brilliantly to prevent the shot from going in. Shenkenveld negated a number of Reds attack. Konstandopolous played a good pass to Absalonsen that was finished off well. Early in the Second Half, Absalonsen had a shot well saved by Bouzanis. Following that Absalonsen nearly finished an exceptional transition of play by the Reds. Mauk of City managed to provide a sublime finish and equalize. Mileusnic of the Reds, had a shot well saved by Bouzanis on the near post. In the Second Half, Shenkenveld continued to read the play intelligently. Substitute Strain of the Reds made an impact playing in the middle of the park, but there was no end product for the Reds in the Second Half, with the game finishing at a one-all stalemate.

Phoenix v Jets Review

For the majority of the First Half both teams respective goal keepers played exceptionally well, however Velaphi let in a goal late in the Half. Burns of the Phoenix had a few chances to put the Jets ahead.  Hoffman persistence paid off when he was responsible for the first goal, with a clinical finish. In the Second Half, the Phoenix controlled the balance of play, but they couldn’t finish off, partly thanks to some good defence and goal keeping from the Jets and also due to some poor finishing from the Phoenix. The Jets finished underserved one-nil winners.

Sky Blues v Roar Review

The Roar opened the scoring early on with Bautheac creating a goal that was finished by Mckay, with the assist coming from a corner kick. Ben Khalfallah provided a good pass to Franjic, with Pepper finishing with a rare goal for him. Bujis provided a brilliant assist for Ninkovic. Following that Ninkovic and Bobo missed opportunities. Simon missed some golden chances and O’Neill took a free kick and forced Young of the Roar into a fantastic save.

Victory v Mariners Review

Golec has a shot blocked off the line by Williams. Berisha provided an assist, with George providing a lethal finish. George provided an exquisite pass to Berisha, who finished well. The Mariners had their chances, but they went in two-nil down at Half Time. Powell had some chances in the Second Half, but didn’t provide a goal. Mcging and Powell missed a golden chance. Berisha finished with a well-deserved hat trick. Theoharis provided a clinical finish. Pain from the Mariners finished with a brace. Victory finished five-two winters.
