A-League Round Sixteen Review

Round Sixteen Review (Hyundai A-League)

Round Sixteen of the A-League was an intriguing one. Remarkably all five games are made up of two evenly matched teams, irrespective of their position on the ladder. The most entertaining game was between the Reds and the Sky Blues; remarkably it was a nil-nil draw. The standard of football was extremely good considering the short turnaround of fixtures for all ten teams in the A-League.

Jets v Roar Review

A sublime pass from Nabbout was credited with an assist thanks to a sublime finish from Hoffman. Young made a couple of crucial saves in the First Half to keep the Roar in the contest. Young continued his good form in the Second Half, brilliantly saving a shot from Georgevski. There was no end product from either team in the Second Half.

Phoenix v Wanderers Review

The game was a good game for the neutral. Santalab made the Phoenix pay for not taking their chances. Bridge missed an easy opportunity, while Riera also nearly scored. The Phoenix made two substitutions at Half Time. The alterations paid dividends with one of the substitutes, Ljucic scoring a cracking goal. The Phoenix can consider themselves unlucky to not take three points from the match.

Victory v Glory Review

The Glory started the game well with Neville scoring a clinical goal, Scott credited with the assist. The Victory fought back to equalize when a shot from George rebounded off Reddy into the path of Troisi. The Glory had a golden opportunity when Taggart butchered a shot on goal. Following Half Time, Milligan scored from a pinpoint cross from George. The Glory made it two-all, when Andreu played an intelligent pass into the path of Castro, who lobbed the Victory goal keeper, Acton. The Victory won late on thanks to a third assist from George that was finished off by Barbarouses. That was how the game ended at three-two in favour of the Victory.

Mariners v City Review

A shot from Mccormack ended up hitting the post. Up the other end Baro scored a goal from an exquisite free kick from Wales. Delbridge got sent off, due to a dangerous tackle on Powell. Following that the ten men City hit back to equalize! Mccormack profited from a pinpoint pass by Jamieson. The Mariners took the lead again thanks to a goal from Mcging. From there on chances were few and far between for both sides. Until late on Kennedy made a brilliant save from a shot by Mccormack and then moments later Budzinski shot a bullet that ended up in the back of the net.

Reds v Sky Blues Review

Margush made a brilliant save from a shot by Mierzejewski. Following that Strain had an opportunity and nearly scored, unfortunately his shot hit the bar. The Half ended at nil-nil, but the quality of play wasn’t bad. In the Second Half a Buijs shot was brilliantly saved by Margush. Margush made another outstanding save from a shot by Mierzejewski. Remarkably with players injured and away with the under twenty-threes, the Reds managed to take a point away from the game. No one was able to break the dead lock.
