BBL 12 Tournament: In case you missed it!

BBL 12: Team by Team Analysis

Adelaide Strikers: They had the right approach and then they chocked!

Adelaide Strikers went from bowling the Sydney Thunder out for 15 to missing the finals! They appeared to lose their way when Chris Lynn who has great leadership qualities went to play a T20 tournament in the UAE. Lynn missed the Strikers last three games. Following winning five of their first nine games, they lost their last five games.

Brisbane Heat: Went from strugglers to reach the final!

Brisbane Heat recovered from winning two of their first nine games, to make the finals. They won their next four games and snuck into the finals. They were fortunate to have Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne play their last seven games before the finals. Both of them didn’t have international commitments so they were free to play.

Hobart Hurricanes: Narrowly missed finals

Hobart Hurricanes were unfortunate to miss the finals as they didn’t have the greatest of teams on paper. They relied heavily on Tim David and Matthew Wade with the bat, while Ben McDermott didn’t perform up to standard. Three of their bowlers stood out, as Riley Meredith, Patrick Dooley and Nathan Ellis took 58 wickets between them.

Melbourne Renegades: Overachieved

Melbourne Renegades did well in the pre finals games to finish third on the table. They finished with seven wins and seven losses. Unfortunately, in the finals they didn’t have the players to get any further than ‘The Knockout’ game in the finals. Aaron Finch was a shining light with the bat, while Thomas Rogers was clearly the best Renegades bowler.

Melbourne Stars: Rock bottom

Melbourne Stars would be disappointed with their BBL 12 campaign. They weren’t at the races as they won just three out of 14 matches! They were either poorly coached or didn’t execute the plans correctly. Their senior players in Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa were sub par.

Perth Scorchers: They deserved to win the tournament

Perth Scorchers worked hard together and played team first cricket. They played well and had even contributors. There’s no disputing that their best cricket was better than the other teams in the BBL 12 tournament. There seemed to be a togetherness in the group, as if one player failed someone else stood up. Credit to their coach, Adam Voges for the culture he built.

Sydney Sixers: Declined

Sydney Sixers were touted as the team to beat prior to the tournament. Despite that, they failed to defeat the Brisbane Heat and didn’t even make the final. Steven Smith came into their team and made a difference. Ultimately, their tactics were wrong against the Brisbane Heat, so they may need a change.

Sydney Thunder: They rebounded after being pounded

Sydney Thunder went from being bowled for 15 by the Strikers to making the finals. Credit to their coaching staff and players as the debacle happened in their second game of the tournament. Chris Green led from the front to steady the ship.
