My Top Six Most Important Players for Each Team, Part Four
I have formulated my top six most important players for the Hawks, Kangaroos and Lions for the 2018 season. A player must have participated in a minimum of ten games to be considered.
Hawks
1- Tom Mitchell- A good chance of winning this year’s Brownlow Medal as he accumulated plenty of possessions.
2- Jack Gunston- Third in marks and second on the list at the Hawks for marks. A pivotal part of the Hawks structure.
3- Luke Breust- On top of the Hawks goal kicking for the year. Possibly the best forward pocket for in the competition. Finished fourth on the list for total tackles for the Hawks.
4- James Sicily- Probably would have been an All Australian if he didn’t get injured. A key part of the Hawks structure.
5- Ryan Burton- Played all but one game for the season. Capable of playing an important role for the team.
6- Liam Shiels- Second on the list for disposals and tackles at the Hawks. An important part of the leadership group.
Honourable Mention- Ben Stratton- Played every game for the season, often plays an important role on the oppositions key tall forward.
Kangaroos
1- Ben Brown- Nearly won the Coleman Medal for the 2018 season, which emphasises his value to the Kangaroos.
2- Shaun Higgins- Probably going to be the leading vote getter in this year’s Brownlow Medal count and named in the All Australian team.
3- Ben Cunnington- The most disposals and tackles for the Kangaroos this year. Cunnington is universally respected as a quality inside midfielder.
4- Todd Goldstein- A key player in the structure of the Kangaroos team, playing as the Kangaroos number one ruckman.
5- Robbie Tarrant- Took the most marks for the season for the Kangaroos. An important part of the manner in which the team functions.
6- Jamie Macmillan- A leader of the footy club, an underrated part of the team, third on the list for total marks, Macmillan plays an important role on the half back flank.
Honourable Mention- Ben Jacobs- One of the best taggers in the competition. Averaged the most tackles for the Kangaroos this season.
Lions
1- Dayne Beams- The most disposals at the Lions and had the ability to hit the scoreboard.
2- Harris Andrews- Named in the All Australian squad of 40. Third on the list for total marks for the Lions.
3- Stefan Martin- Averaged nearly twenty possessions, Martin’s work around the ground was elite.
4- Alex Witherden- Led the Lions for total marks and was second for disposals, Witherden had a breakout season.
5- Luke Hodge- Second for total marks at the club, Hodge showed great on field leadership, his value to the team was immeasurable.
6- Dayne Zorko- Took over the captaincy from Dayne Beams, was third in total disposals, first for tackles and second on the goal kicking list at the Lions for the season.
Honourable Mention- Eric Hipwood- Led the goal kicking list, Hipwood wasn’t only able to hit the scoreboard, but he was an important part of the Lions forward set up.
